Runway helps create and edit visual material with AI, particularly short video shots and images. It is useful when you need to explore a scene, demonstrate a visual concept or create footage you do not already have.
For a creator, designer or agency, the value is being able to test an idea before organising a full production. You still need to choose the shots, check visual continuity and edit the result into something worth watching.

Current Pro includes 2,250 credits per month, 100 GB storage and watermark-free output under the plan’s supported tools. Different models, resolutions, durations and actions use different amounts of credit; this is not a fixed number of finished videos.
Pro’s monthly credits do not roll over. Runway says they reset within 24 hours of the billing date each cycle. Separately purchased additional credits do not expire under the current public terms. What you can actually do

A smarter way to use this: build a small visual reference system before generating the video
The costly approach is asking for several complete shots and hoping the character, product and setting all match. References lets you separate those decisions.
- Choose a clear reference image you have permission to use. In the Image tool, enable References, upload it and tag it with a name so you can call it with
@namein later prompts. - Add a separate setting or visual reference where needed. The documented workflow supports up to three references per generation.
- Generate a small set of still frames for the sequence. Check identity, product details, composition and continuity before doing motion work.
- For a complex change, refine one element at a time and save a successful result as a new reference. Keep the approved starting images instead of repeatedly regenerating the whole concept.
- Send an approved still into the video tool using its available camera/Use control. Describe the motion you need, generate a short test and inspect the result before extending the sequence.
This is useful for a recurring character, branded visual series or consistent product scene. It can reduce random iteration, but it does not guarantee exact identity, perfectly legible packaging or physically correct movement. Review every frame that matters to the claim you are making.
First setup
Verify Pro and the credit-renewal date. Create a private test project, organise source assets and try one short generation. Check its credit cost, export and storage use before making a larger batch.
Write a shot list with a purpose for each shot. A few approved shots are usually more useful than a large folder of unrelated generations.
Limits, rights and mistakes to avoid
Check the displayed cost before changing models or requesting a longer, higher-resolution output. Repeated variations can consume a monthly balance quickly. Storage and generation allowance are separate limits.
Watermark-free output is not a blanket licence to use another person’s likeness, copyrighted assets or a brand’s identity. Obtain the relevant permissions and avoid misleading a viewer into believing an invented event or product demonstration is real.
Confirm API billing and any separately purchased usage before integrating Runway into an automated workflow. Do not assume a web-app coupon automatically pays for external services or every programmatic call.
