What you can do with it
Keep the decisions from a project call, prepare a customer follow-up, compare feedback across interviews, or revisit the reason behind an earlier choice. Add your own short notes during the meeting when something matters; your judgement gives the later summary useful context.
A summary is still a draft. Check names, owners, dates and commitments before it becomes an instruction to another person.
A smarter way to use this: find the decision that quietly changed
A single meeting summary cannot tell you that a client changed direction over several weeks. A deliberately scoped comparison can.
- Put the relevant meetings into a project folder, or select the specific meetings as chat context. Avoid querying unrelated client notes together.
- Ask: “List the decisions about scope in date order. Separate confirmed decisions, suggestions and unresolved questions. Identify later statements that contradict earlier ones.”
- Ask for the meeting title, date and supporting wording for each important point. Open the underlying notes or transcript and verify it; do not treat an AI-written reference as automatically correct.
- Turn the checked result into a short decision log: current position, what changed, owner and next action.
- Share that log with the people who need it, rather than forwarding a whole private folder. Ask them to confirm anything still ambiguous.
This is particularly useful before a client review or project handoff. It helps distinguish “we discussed this” from “we approved this.” Granola can compare the available notes, but it cannot recover a decision that was never captured or establish agreement on someone’s behalf.
First setup
Connect only the calendar and integrations you need. Run a short test meeting, check capture permissions, and inspect the resulting notes. Create one project folder and choose its sharing permissions deliberately.
Granola documents chat on desktop and iOS; some context selection and editing features are desktop-only. Check device support for the workflow you plan to use.
Privacy and mistakes to avoid
Folder access controls who can read its notes. “Anyone with the link” is not private client-only sharing. Granola says your personal chat history is not shared merely because you share a note, but the note itself still follows its sharing settings.
Review each integration’s scope before connecting it. A destination such as Slack or a CRM can expose copied notes to a different audience. Keep a separate copy of essential decisions when your work requires durable records.
