What you can actually do
Research a small set of qualified prospects and produce evidence-backed notes. Extract structured information from incoming documents. Prepare a support reply using approved material, or assemble an internal report from connected business data.
Begin with a draft or review queue before allowing automatic sending, deleting or changes to customer records. A convincing AI answer is not the same as a verified result.
A smarter way to use this: let the agent investigate, but make writes a separate decision
You do not have to choose between doing everything manually and giving an agent unrestricted access.
- Connect only the apps needed for one task. Give it a clear output structure, such as a table containing each finding, source, uncertainty and proposed action.
- In the app’s tool permissions, use Ask for writes/deletes, or set individual sensitive tools to require approval. Do not rely only on a sentence in the prompt when a permission control is available.
- Let the agent research and prepare the proposed changes. Use the code sandbox for ordinary data manipulation where appropriate, rather than making an AI call for every trivial transformation.
- Review the evidence and approve only the intended write. Keep a record of which input produced the result so retries do not blindly create duplicates.
- Save a few representative examples as evaluations. Include a messy input and a case where the correct answer is “insufficient evidence,” then rerun them after changing instructions.
This gives you a reusable process whose quality can be checked, not just a chat that happened to work once. Evaluations are tests you design; they do not automatically prove every future output is correct. Review saved instructions too, because agents can update them during conversations.
The credit details that are easy to miss
Current agent billing separates model reasoning, successful tool calls, active compute and an orchestration fee. External enrichment or scraping tools can add their own charge. A longer investigation can therefore cost more even when the final answer is short.
Bring your own key does not make Gumloop free. Eligible model calls use your provider key and avoid the corresponding Gumloop model-credit charge, but you pay that provider directly. Tool calls and compute remain chargeable, and the documented agent orchestration percentage is higher with BYOK.
First setup
Choose one bounded task and test it on a handful of non-sensitive examples. Inspect the credit breakdown, output quality and permission requests. Set the usage controls before scheduling it, then record what a successful run should produce and how a failure should be handled.
Keep third-party service limits and credentials in mind. A Gumloop subscription does not grant access to every paid data source or make an external service’s terms disappear.
